About This Item
First edition of Tarabukin's theoretical work on avant-garde and modern art.
The Fundamentals of a Theory of Painting was written in 1916, by the influential Russian-Soviet art historian Nikolai Tarabukin (1889-1956) and published by the All-Russian Proletkult, the avant-garde Soviet artistic institution, in 1923. In this theoretical work, Tarabukin discusses the state of contemporary art, analyzes Tatlin's work, and the Cubist and Futurist movement in the context of the cultural tradition.
