Some creasing to the larger margins, two plates exhibit foxing and a couple more show some slight marginal tanning, otherwise very good or better. Decent representation of two of the sub- elements of Gavarni's extended work, which when completed, included 329 lithographic plates. The first element lacks plate 1 of the twenty published, and the second lacks plates 4 and 5 of twenty published (duplicates of 2 and 7 are also present, but not included in the count above). Ray treats the series at some length, describing Thomas Virelogue as "one of Gavarni's most brilliant inspirations," and the work as a whole as "a neglected masterpiece of nineteenth-century French graphic art." Signed on plate (plate signed) and hand numbered out of 1500. Limitation page in French and English. This set is No. 1477/1500.
"The series was printed using the original plates for the portfolio LA MELODIE ACIDE, published in January 1980....The present edition consists of 1,500 prints on Arches paper of the 14 original plates, numbered from 1/1,500 to 1,500/1,500, and with the artist's signature on each of the plates."
This set is INCOMPLETE with 12 of the 14 plates. Plates measure 13 x 10 inches and are in excellent condition. Exterior paperboard portfolio is heavily torn at the flap and lightly soiled overall.

London 1817. Published by S. and J. Fuller. One, and perhaps the rarest, of the "Sporting Discoveries" series. Worldcat locates only 1 copy at Yale University. Seven colored aquatint plates, in very good condition, and are still sewn together. The top paper wrap is detached and in poor condition…the bottom wrap is missing. Plates are housed in an attractive cloth clam-shell case.

Paris: L.I. (Louis Icart), 1940. Book. Fine. Hardcover. Pierre Louys adaptation of the Greek myth of Leda and the Swan. One of only 4 copies, on Japon, with extra suites of the 1st state proofs and the 2nd state proofs and the original copper plate used for the etching on page 7. Numbered from II to V. This is copy number IV. From a total edition of 147. With 16 drypoint engravings printed in blue by Louis Icart of which 5 full page and 11 in-text. The etchings were printed by French masterprinter Manuel Robbe. The 32 full page 1st and 2nd state proofs are printed in black. All prints protected by tissue guards. Loose folded sheets in wrappers with silver title. In publishers marbled chemise and slipcase. 23 text pages. Sheets measure 29 x 21,5 cm. Extremely rare copy with the extra suites and the original copper plate. Spine of chemise a bit sun faded, lightest wear to corner tips of slipcase. A very fine copy in collectors condition. .
