The Mingus Dynasty jazz ensemble formed in 1979 following the death of legendary jazz musician and composer Charles Mingus, taking their name from Mingus' classic 1959 album. The ensemble expanded to a big band format in 1988, the Mingus Big Band. The are currently three Mingus repertory groups, The Mingus Dynasty, the Mingus Big Band, and the Mingus Orchestra, all of which currently tour extensively worldwide. The Mingus Dynasty ensemble found on the poster offered here includes George Adams, Craig Handy, Jack Walrath, John Hicks, Ray Drummond, and Ronnie Burrage. Among the ensembles' alumni are Jimmy Owens, Randy Brecker, Jon Faddis, Jimmy Knepper, and John Handy, among many, many others.
