New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1908. "Ingleby" was one of the pseudonyms used by Cyril Arther Edward Ranger Gull (1875-1929) a prolific author of over 100 novels. Known for horror and mystery, but his most popular was "When It Was Dark," with an outright Jewish conspirac theme. He was connected to Wilde through his friendship with the Decadent publisher Leonard Smithers. This is a Very Good (Minus) copy of the First American Edition, issued a year later than the English version, and less common. Light green cloth binding. Titling in gilt with dark green decorative stamping on the front cover; titling and decorations on the spine in gilt. Clean text; viii, 400 pages; indexed; top edge is gilt.; frontis portrait of a young Wilde by S. Wray. Showing some wear, with rubbing at the margins. Bumped and somewhat shaken due to some cracking. Spotting to the fore-edge and around the endpapers.. First American Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. Illus. by S. Wray. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
