Binding tight - with slight forwrd lean, pages a bit stff but clean and unmarked. Text block edges a bit uneven. Cloth shows a little wear at the extremities, frayed a bit at top and bottom spine, lower rear bpard shows tip through worn cloth, with other 3 forecorners VG. 4.9" x 7.4" brown linen cloth covered boards. In glassine wrapper. Based on Hawthorne's experience as a consul - employee of the US govt. - (diplomat) in London, England. The careful observations of 19th century England by a great writer and classic american author. .
