Very clean decorated binding with bevelled board edges. Clean brown cloth boards with black and gold decoration, gold lettering on cover and spine, blind-stamped decoration on rear board. Slight surface wear to spine ends; binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Clean chocolate brown endpapers, 1" closed tear at base of front free endpaper; no names, writing or marks. With nearly 400 illustrations throughout the book; pages and edges are clean. Preface by the author. 398 pages. "Fun is the most conservative element of society, and it ought to be cherished and encouraged by all lawful means. People never plot mischief when they are merry. Laughter is an enemy to malice, a foe to scandal and a friend to every virtue. It promotes good temper, enlivens the heart and brightens the intellect."
