About This Item
Indianapolis, IN: The Bobbs-Merrill Company Publishers, 1916. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket (as issued). Some shelf wear with bumped corners and edgewear, but binding is tight and the pages are all clean with no markings. The edges of the textblock are lightly tanned. Some light spotting on some pages usually along the edges of pages and backs of illustrations. The first illustration is loose from the binding but still present. Previous owner's name written inside front cover on first page in ink dated January 1st 1917. Light brown cloth boards with gilt text. Spine is slightly faded but still legible. There is a black line apparently in ink running down the middle of the front cover for about 3 inches. wear has created lighter spots on the cover especially on the edges and back but the cloth is intact.

Book People founder Ruth Erb first opened the store at an earlier incarnation of the Willow Lawn shopping center. Because she loved books, loved working with people, and wanted to combine the two, she called her new store Book People. In 1986, Erb moved the store to Granite Avenue in the Westhampton part of Richmond, where it did a brisk business. Former store employee David Shuman purchased Book People from Erb in 2018, and he has recently relocated the store to larger quarters in the Gleneagles shopping center in western Henrico.
