About This Item

Albuquerque, NM: University of New Mexico Press, 1978. Softbound. Good+ (wraps scuffed & scratched. heavy rubbing to all edges, spine & corners. spine has multiple full-length creases; textblock & pgs remain firm, intact. old glue line visible to front interior gutter. original price sticker to back wrap. interior appears clean & bright, but may have marginalia, etc). Illustrated wraps, 324 pp. 568 bw repros. Photo is of a previous copy from our inventory; this copy does not have the blue discard sticker to spine. Also, condition differs; careffully read condition description. Stated 1978 and third paperbound copy. This is the enlarged and revised edition of a slim 1964 exhibition catalogue. It compares paintings and their photographic sources to give a better understanding of how the camera affects an artist's work. Much is revealed about an artist when we see what is kept, omitted, or modified. Topics include portraits and genre of the 19th and 20th centuries, stop-action photography, photographic exaggerations of face and figure, landscapes, mixed media, fantasy and protest, and photographs as catalysts. Also includes 11 pages of notes and an index.
