Each chapter covers a different aspect of water, including reflections, running water, falling water, still water and atmospherics. With the emphasis on the gradual accumulation of skills, Ann Whalley explains the basic principles of perspective and reflection, colour and tone, as well as the rules governing composition and distortion. A useful chapter on materials and equipment is followed by chapters dealing with individual aspects of painting water in its many forms, from the sea with its cliffs, harbours and beaches to flowing rivers and muddy puddles.
