About This Item

Geneve: Chez Claude Philibert & Barthelemi Chirol, 1770. Reprint. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 1770 reprint, originally published in 1769 in both Geneva and Amsterdam. Bindings appear to be original. Boards a bit rubbed with some loss along front joint of first volume, photographic owner bookplate and small dealer bookplate on front endpapers. xxvi, 431; ii, 448 pp. French text. Full calf, gilt titles on morocco spine labels, elaborate gilt spine decorations, red edges, marbled endpapers. Bonnet coined the term 'phyllotaxis,' and was among the first to use the term 'evolution' in reference to biology. This work explores the nature of living beings before and after death, positing that even plants and animals have souls, and that souls are reincarnated in successively improved bodies (an assertion similar to the concepts of reincarnation and karma in Hinduism).
