About This Item
New York 2003. The influential legacy of iconoclastic 20th century designer, Verner Panton (1926-1998) includes era-defining chairs, textiles, and interiors. Until the current exhibition, however, little critical attention has been paid spefiically to his innovative use of lighting and to the approximately 25 different lamps he designed. The use of indirect, reflective, and diffused sources of illumination characterizes his lighting. He turns to boldly staged, boldly colored elements in many of his lights and objects. Pantons color scheme generally incorporates the 6 prismatic colors of the rainbow - the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and the secondary colors (green, violet and orange) as well as magenta and turquoise. More than any other color, however, Panton favored red. All of his lamps are composed of circular forms, which he believed suggested stability and calm. , English, Year2003, Illust. B/W, Illust.
