An illustrated selection of parables surrounding the topic of nature, written by English children's author and writer on biology, Margaret Gatty. This work is bound in green cloth with decorative gilt detailing. The first edition of the work was in 1860. Mrs. Alfred Gatty, or Margaret Gatty, was an English children's author and writer on natural biology. She aimed to influence both children and adults with her work, and occasionally commented on other writers, such as Charles Darwin. While drawing on her inspiration from the natural world, Gatty also strived to show her young readers a clear moral path and appreciate God's creation. In Parables of Nature, she explores subjects including Cobwebs, Night and Day, and Red Snow, a type of algae.With 15 illustrations throughout. Collated, complete.Ink inscription to half title, stating Henry Robert Morgan With Grandmother's love, Feb 14th 1874. In green cloth binding with gilt details. Externally generally smart, slightly rubbed to the extremities. Light bumping to extremities Light rubbing to boards. Slight age toning to endpapers. Internally generally firmly bound. Light age toning to pages, with the occasional spotting, mainly to first and last pages. Ink inscription to half title, dated 1874. Very Good
