Ha studiato Filosofia e Psicologia in Italia e Fotografia ed Arti visive a Londra. Dal 1977 ha utilizzato come artista il mezzo fotografico esplorandone gli statuti, il linguaggio e la bidimensionalità dell'immagine. Il suo lavoro si è orientato in direzioni diverse da quelle tradizionali, tese allora a privilegiare il valore testimoniale e narrativo dell'immagine fotografica, ricercando invece una visione più soggettiva e metaforica della realtà. In questi anni ha realizzato polittici ed opere di grande formato esposti in Italia e all'estero. Dalla fine degli anni '80 ad oggi ha gradualmente introdotto nel suo lavoro l'uso di nuovi linguaggi.
