About This Item

[Washington, D.C.]: [The White House], 1974. Signed Document. Framed Document. Fine. Signed copy of President Gerald R. Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon, framed with color photograph of Ford.. Decorative dark cherry wood frame, thick gray matte with wood trim around each object, museum glass, full piece measures 27.5" x 32.25." Contains engraved silver plate with description. Provenance: From the estate of Louis Falanga and RR Auction (Catalogue 231, Item 14). A fine decorative piece. The pardon of Richard Nixon was issued on September 8, 1974 by President Gerald R. Ford. Officially known as Presidential Proclamation 4311, it constituted a full and unconditional pardon of President Richard Nixon for any crimes he might have committed against the United States as President, specifically related to his actions in the Watergate matter. The pardon would haunt the presidency of Ford, likely costing him the election in 1976.
