About This Item

London: Smith, Elder & Co, 1887. First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine. 12mo, original maroon cloth with gilt lettering on spine & thin black rules bordering the front cover, 268 + [4] pages of ads for "Works of Elizabeth Barrett Browning," RB, & W.M. Thackeray. Browning once again draws on his profound--though esoteric--knowledge to give his readers insights into the human condition. In this superior condition this very late RB volume is scarce: first issue with the dedication memorial page to J.[oseph] Milsand incorrectly dated "1586" (Sept. MDLXXXVI). Binding tight, pages clean though slightly age-toned. Top edges of pages darkened and with minute wear to extremities; tiny booksellers label on front pastedown, unopened late collection by the poet; overall, Near Fine. Barnes ; NCBEL III, 444.
