New York: Calloway Edition/Alfred A.Knopf, 1991. First edition. First Printing. Hardcover. Fine/fine. 300pp. 11" x 12 3/4" x 1 1/8". Gray cloth over boards, stamped spine. French wraps with color photo of Ginko leaves on front and Three Asaro Mudman on verso. Book is in pristine condition with no noticeable shelf wear. Book is tight, bright, unclipped, unmarked, and straight. Richard Benson did eleven impressions of the black and white photos at Franklin Graphics in Providence, RI. There are color photos, too. Introduction is by Alexander Liberman, Penn's mentor. Book starts with photos from 1938 (Antique Shop, Philadelphia and ends in 1991. Still lifes, portraits, fashion, nudes; work chronology in rear. A beautiful retrospective of Penn's career up to 1991. Gift quality book. Heavy book, extra postage required.
