About This Item
Newcastle-upon-Tyne: Andrew Reid, 1881. Hardcover. Near Fine. pp196 A record of events of public interest which took place in the vicinity of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the north east of England in the year 1880, the most notable of which were an explosion at Seaham Colliery in September which resulted in over 160 deaths and a "Gale in October which proved so disastrous to life and shipping". The volume has been rebound in blue buckram over marbled boards with the original pink card wrappers and advertisements still present. Near fine, the covers are fresh, the binding tight. Ephemera relating to the compiler of the register, Fred Gosman, have been laid down onto the front end papers, including a portrait photograph, two poems celebrating his Silver Wedding anniversary and a card intimating his death in 1890. Bookplates of R W Martin of Longbenton, Harold Boac and Frances Thompson. A fascinating volume of local history. Near Fine 1881
