About This Item
Near-Fine 1st printing trade softcover. A member of the famous RAF 617 Dambusters Squadron tells the true story of his daring escape from Occupied Europe during WWII. Only a hint of wear at corners of covers, otherwise brand new in all respects. Crisp, clean, square, tight, no spine creases. 6" x 9", 188 pages, maps, log book entries and photos, epilogue by George Waters. Laid-in is a photo-copy of a letter from Buckingham Palace dated 1999 in which the Private Secretary to HRH The Princess Royal thanks Waters for sending two copies of this book to the Royal Family. Bob Kellow was a member of the Royal Air Force No. 50 Squadron and No. 617 Squadron, better known as the 'Dambusters. ' He was on board the Lancaster Bomber that dropped the bomb that destroyed the Eder Dam in May, 1943. Forced to parachute out over Northern Holland later that year, Kellow spent 12 weeks eluding German forces. He escaped through Holland, Belgium, France and over the Pyrennes Mountains to Spain and Gibraltar, and finally back to England. 'Paths to Freedom' is the detailed and intriguing story of the people in the 'Underground Movement', and other citizens, who helped Kellow and other members of the Allied Forces escape.
