Philadelphia: Henry Altemus, 28 S. Fourth Street, 1891. Boards. Very good +. Maurice LELOIR. 8vo; 296pp; dark green cloth over board; stamped pictorial, gilt figures and silver flowers on front, decorative spine; all edges gilt; gift inscription to ffep dated 1892; engraved frontispiece and vignette on title page, 11 additional full-page engravings and small illustrations in the text; rubbing to head and tail of spine, and corners; very good plus. Written on the eve of the French Revolution in 1788, the novel takes place on the island of Mauritius. The story is of love between Paul and Virginia, and of the upper class of French society. A biography of the author and a preface precede the story.
