Illustrated with an engraved title page, and twenty-five plates by Hablot Knight Browne, better known as 'Phiz', the well-known artist and illustrator renowned for his illustrations in the works of Charles Dickens, Charles Lever, and Harrison Ainsworth. Collated, complete. Augustus Septimus Mayhew was a renowned English journalist and author, best known for his works produced in collaboration with his brother Henry Mayhew.Divided into three parts, this is a tale of London life in the mid-Victorian era.The first edition in book form of this work, first published in thirteen parts between March 1857 and April 1858. In half morocco binding with marbled paper covered boards. Head of front joint starting, with board tender. Rubbing to rear joint and board perimeters. Small loss of leather to back strip head. Rear hinge strained. Internally, firmly bound. Engraved and letterpress title page age toned, with pages otherwise bright. Light spotting throughout, most concentrated to plate perimeters. Good Only
