Cork: The Mercier Press Ltd., 1951. First published in 1935, this is considered to be the definitive work on the negotiations that led eventually to Ireland's freedom. Packenham (1905-2001) was an Irish Peer (Seventh Earl of Longford), but politically a member of the Labour Party, who became prominent in prison reform. Although it has been reprinted, the early editions are scarce. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of a midcentury Irish reprint (itself scarce). Green pebbled cloth binding, with gilt titling on the spine. Clean text; x, 399 pages; indexed. The corners are bumped and there is fade to the head and foot of the spine. Lacking a dustwrapper.. First Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
