About This Item
First hardcover edition, with dust jacket, published by Goldsmith, 1936. Presumed first edition, as the copyright page does not list an edition, only the date. 'Joan Clark' was one of the pseudonyms that Mildred Benson used to write the 'Penny Nichols' series, she also wrote some of the early Nancy Drew stories under the 'Carolyn Keene' name too. In this adventure, Penny helps her friend Amy after she is accused of stealing a Rembrandt painting! 249 pages. No dust jacket. Author's name and title imprinted on the spine and cover in black, as well as a design of the main character on the front board too. Boards are flat, there is edge wear to the tips of the corners with exposure of the boards at the tips. Corners are slightly bent inward too. Old hand written price on the first flyleaf, in faded blue ink at the top right corner. Small doodle on the first flyleaf too. No further writing besides that. Edges of the text block are clean. Not a library copy. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
