About This Item

Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Page and Company, 1914. Very good plus in very good plus jacket.. First edition, first state of this classic of US American boyhood, featuring coming of age adventures in the midwest - in the scarce original dust jacket. PENROD is often compared to Mark Twain's tales of boyhood, especially THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER. This is an excellent copy, rarely found in such a nice dust jacket, and with highly desirable provenance. 7.25'' x 5''. Original white-lettered blue cloth. In original unclipped ($1.25) pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated by Grant in black and white throughout. "viii" present on the appropriate page; "sence" on p. 19. x, 345, [1] pages. Doheny's gilt goatskin bookplate on front pastedown. Book with slight soiling to boards and small repair to spine head. Jacket beautifully intact with light soil and a few shallow closed tears primarily at spine ends.
