The spiral binding is a bit squashed, the covers are somewhat worn with a little bit of chipping to the back cover, and there is very minor soiling at the page edges. Cloth folding box. First edition, limited issue. One of an unknown number of out of series copies, unnumbered, in addition to 250 numbered copies, signed by the publisher. In this copy, on a sheet of matching handmade paper inserted in place of the front free endsheet Field has neatly copied out his poem, "Little Boy Blue," in red and black ink, in his diminutive hand, with rubricated initials at the beginning of each stanza and two small hand-colored drawings (a toy soldier and a toy lamb) in the margins. Beneath the poem is his presentation inscription, which reads: "For My Dearest and Most Beautiful Julia, Ever yours devotedly, / Eugene Field." Four lush color chromolithographs, decorative initials, and full-color head- and tail-pieces by Vasnetsov. Corners a bit worn, edges lightly so, covers lightly soiled, else internally a sharp, bright copy. Rare.
First editon. Vasnetsov's most famous illustrated work, published on May 26 1899 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Pushkin's birth. Vasntsov's chromolithographs are truly enchanting – bursting with glorious color and capturing the power of Pushkin's lush tale. Kilgour 897.

Volume 10 only of Friedrich Bertuch's famous Picture-book for Children, an illustrated encyclopedia for children. With 97 (of 100) hand-coloured copperplates (missing plates 4, 36, 58). Explanatory text in German and French.The Picture-Book was published in 12 volumes from 1790 to 1843 and eventually included 1,185 handcoloured copperplates. Bertuch wished to reproduce the magic of discovery, and mixed engravings of plants, animals, shells, minerals, volcanoes and technical inventions in a utopian chaos, so that a child could encounter afresh the wonders of the natural world at the turn of every page. Full-page color plates and black and white illustrations by Potter. Potter's first large format book. A very nice, tight and clean copy.

I.T.A. Experimental Edition. Hard cover. Scott, Foresman and Company (1965) Good. Corner bumps with what appears to be slight water damage on the very last page. Writing in pencil inside front cover explaining the edition and rarity. 160 p. Includes: illustrations, index. Extremely rare Initial Teaching Alphabet experimental edition of the New Basic Readers of Fun with our Friends. This was piloted in a few select schools but was abandoned 1-2 years after it began. The I.T.A. was developed by Sir James Pitman and was intended for use with children with extreme reading disabilities. This is a first and ONLY edition printed in 1965. Colour pages are printed on one side only. A bright and clean copy throughout. Publishers original grey/dark green paper covered, bevelled edged, boards with lettering and illustration to the front board by Dulac, printed in Gold, white, orange and light green. Rear board with circular design printed in white, gold and green. Plain yellow cloth spine. Some minor marking to the spine but overall a lovely clean, tight, near fine copy. Among the artists best and most imaginative works, this title is also one of the scarcest books that he illustrated.
