About This Item
Paris: Editions De Cluny, 1934. The "Pensees' (Fragments) of Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), his major defense of the Christian religion, were published posthumously in a rather haphazzard fashion. Since then, attempts have been made to edit them into rational coherence. This is a nice edition of this major work, in French, edited by the philosopher Leon Brunschvicg (1869-1944). An uncommon to scarce edition, which is LIMITED, with the first fifty copies reserved for the Bibliophile Society. This is copy #1895 of an unknown limitation. Marbled paper-covered boards, with brown leather spine and tips. Five raised bands on the spine, with titling in gilt. Clean text; ix, then starts with page nine and continues to 362, followed by the Table of Contents. Top edge is gilt, others rough-cut. Corners have been rubbed, as have the margins of the spine. An attractive book, and no doubt rewarding to read, particularly if your French is better than that of Quercus.. Limited. Half-Leather. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
