Description:
1879 1st ed Thomas Hardy Return of the Native Egdon Heath Witchcraft Clym & Vye

"The Return of the Native" was admired for its powerfully evoked setting of Egdon Heath, which was based on the somber countryside Thomas Hardy had known as a child. Egdon Heath, a fictional location created by Hardy, is known for widespread witchcraft and superstitions.
This is his 6th novel which was known for its sensationalism and controversial themes quickly becoming one of Hardy's most popular and highly regarded novels. The novel portrays the tragic marriage of Eustacia Vye and Clym Yeobright, the returning native, who is blind to his wife's needs by his naive zeal and moral fervor.
This 1879 edition is 2 volumes in one published as a part of Tauchnitz's collection of British Author printings.

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
