About This Item

First edition, stated second printing. Sandburg's full signature in ink, without any inscription, appears on the first title page. While we have not authenticated the signature, we have compared it with authenticated Sandburg signatures we have found on line. The signature appears to be genuine. Also, in it's favor, is that the book from an estate sale of a U. S. judge.

The book is is excellent condition. Cover with copper spine lettering has faded and there is slight wear at corners and some tonal aging the end pages. Pages are clear without marks, foxing or tears. The dj. encased in a BroDart transparent cover, has small chips at the edges and wear on the front and back dj covers. Also, it is clipped at the corners. .

Synopsis

A long poem that makes brilliant use of the legends and myths, the tall tales and sayings of America. "If America has a folksinger today he is Carl Sandburg, a singer who comes out of the prairie soil... who can hand back to the people a creation that has scraps of their own insight, humor, and imagination" (Padraic Colum).
