About This Item

new york: harper and row, 1980. first edition, 1980.

american historian and political scientist howard zinn presents an alternative side of history to what he calls the "fundamental nationalist glorification of country." the publication of "a people's history" was considered a landmark turning point in which a new emphasis was placed on the historical narratives and experiences of women, factory workers, native americans, african americans, and the poor. library journal called the book "a brilliant and moving history of the American people from the point of view of those. . . whose plight has been largely omitted from most histories."
