About This Item

Paris: Jean du Paris, 1663. Hardcover. First Edition. Folio: 9.75 x 14.25in. Niceron: [6, preliminaries including frontispiece] 191pp. Mersenne: [6, preliminaries] 134pp. 50 engraved plates at rear. Bound in full calf of the period. Spine with 6 raised bands and 7 decorated compartments. The former copy of one Jean Chauardin with his signature and further notation at the back paste-down as well as his pertinent marginalia occasionally throughout. Self-identified as a "arpenteur" or surveyor in Paris in 1674, he was presumably applying the new science to his trade. GOOD. Significant wear to the binding, but intact; slight browning; title page loose; chip to the top margin of the final plate, but not affecting the illustration. As pictured.
