" "Pestalozzi recognized the danges inherent in the industiral age; progressive mechanization, growing mass development, increasing state control, and diminishing individual responsibility" were threatening the well-being of families in 19th centiry Europe. Silber's goal in writing this book in English was to bring the progressive ideas of Pestalozzi to an audience not well aquainted with his enlighten thought.
