About This Item
2pg. 7 ¾" x 12 ½". No Date. No Place. A petition for a bridge to be built in Pittsburgh. In part: "Taking into view the above, with many other facts of a similar nature connected, you will perceive that the erection of a bridge over the creek at the above place would not only be an improvement of sectional benefit, but one of much public importance. Your memorialists would further state, that while they, in common with their fellow citizens throughout the country, have furnished the means to make the like for similar improvements elsewhere, that they believe it would be but a matter of right and justice that an appropriation by the County should be made sufficient to defray the principle part of the cost of a bridge, that would be of so much general benefit. Your memorialists thereon hope that the Grand Inquest now sitting for the County of Washington, will pass a vote, directing the Commission of said County to appropriate two hundred and fifty dollars, as a part of the means necessary to erect the said bridge." The petition was signed by over fifty residents. It is in fair condition with a rather large fold separation and toning that affects some text
