About This Item
1868. Very good. Handwritten, three-page MSS from the County Commissioners of Strafford County to the towns of Stafford, New Durham, Alton and Barnstead, regarding a proposed highway in nearby Farmington. The Commissioners see these towns as receiving benefits from such a highway and propose a hearing to see if they will agree to shoulder some of the costs. (8" x 9 3/4"). A good example of how local internal improvements were implemented in mid-19th century New England. Two horizontal creases, otherwise a clean copy.
