First edition, first impression. Presentation copy, signed and inscribed by the author to the title page for Rolando Pieraccini, artist and publisher: 'For Rolando Pieraccini with all best wishes Iris Murdoch'. Cover art by Cathie Felstead. Rare inscribed.
\Original dark blue cloth with silver lettering to spine. A touch of toning to edges with small biro mark to top edge, otherwise near fine in a very good price-clipped dust jacket with a small nick to top edge of lower panel and a little edge wear. Jacket hinges fit a little loosely on the book.
Synopsis
IRIS MURDOCH was born in Dublin in 1919 of Anglo-Irish parents. She went to Badminton School, Bristol, and read classics at Somerville College, Oxford. In 1948 she returned to Oxford where she became a fellow of St Anne's college. Awarded the CBE in 1976, Iris Murdoch was made a DBE in the 1987 New Year's Honours List. She died in February 1999.
