Rubber stamped on reverse "Please Credit Pan American World Airways System, Atlantic Division, International Airport, NY." Stevenson was nominated for President on the third ballot at the July 21-26, 1952 Democratic National Convention held in Chicago's International Amphitheatre. He lost the November 4, 1952 election to the Republican candidate, popular World War II general Dwight D. Eisenhower by 442-89 Electoral Votes (39-9 states. Four years later, Stevenson was renominated on the first ballot at the August 13-17, 1956 Democratic National Convention, again held in Chicago's International Amphitheatre. The results of the November 6, 1956 election were basically the same. President Eisenhower was reelected, defeating Stevenson 457-73 electoral votes (41-seven states). Stevenson later served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (1961-1965), where he displayed his eloquence and wit to the world, especially in confrontations with the Soviet Ambassador. Unframed.
