Kobenhavn [Copenhagen]: : Thiels, , 1771. First Danish edition. 8vo, . Illustrated with 2 folding plates 1/2 calf and boards, lacking most of spine strip, boards rubbed with upper board detached, names to ffep, split to fold on one plate with marginal chips but still a good clean copy. In this work, Bergman identified four major classes of rock strata and examined the importance of fossils. Considered Bergman's most important work, his "Physical description of the Earth" was first published in Sweden in 1766. It became an instant success and was translated into several languages (although not in English).
