About This Item
Henry G. Bohn, London., 1844. First edition. Royal octavo. pp iv, 312. Frontispiece, extra engraved title-page, and seventy-one other illustrations, mostly steel engraved plates of racehorses. Period binding of half burgundy morocco with raised bands, gilt decoration, all edges gilt, textured cloth sides. On the title page someone has erased the original date of publication (1844) and inkstamped ''1847'' for some reason. On the first blank is pasted an 1871 newspaper clipping listing Derby winners. The extra engraved title-page has the usual foxing, in this case quite heavily so. Some light foxing to several of the other plates. Covers rubbed at the edges. Very good.
