About This Item
John Masters Trilogy #3. Ex-library book has usual markings, stamps, stickers, writing, card holder. DJ has some bumping, rubbing on the top, spine, edges, corners. Outer page edges with tanning, browning, stains and foxing. In this - the third and final volume - Masters describes a death and rebirth for himself and his family. By the late 1940s, his professional life - a fifth generation servant of the Crown in India who fought in the Middle East and Burma in World War Two - ended with freedom and separation of colonial India into two independent countries. So great was the division, that Masters left a military that did not want him in India to briefly serve with another military that had no use for him in England. The England he and his family were effectively forced to go to was itself in the process of transforming itself into a semi-socialist state; something with which Masters could not abide. Taking what funds he had, he came to America with the idea of setting up a business that involved walking tours of the Himalaya. The breadth and depth of his experience is mind boggling, authentic, and easy to read. A27.
