Hardcover. 400, (4) pages; Contents clean and secure in original blue cloth binding in dustjacket missing the lower inch and a half. No. 975 of a limited edition of 1000 copies; SIGNED by the Author. From the dustjacket flap: "The first white man to sail into the Delaware Bay was Henry Hudson who anchored inside the Capes for a night in 1609. He did not explore the Bay most likely because he had no pilot. Since then pilots have been sought to conduct ships safely past treacherous shoals and shallows. Knowledge and experience are more necessary today than ever in delivering ships safely to their destinations up river." Profusely illustrated. .

Large format hardcover with dustjacket, the author has changed the limited edition number from 3000 copies to to 1600 copies and has hand-numbered this copy "1602," (we can't explain that) it is signed by the author below the limitation notice, the book is in excellent condition with no significant flaws, the jacket has two significant edge-chips on the front panel and a smaller edge-chip on the rear panel, the jacket is clean and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included, 399 pages + an Index, illustrated with photos, an end-paper map and other illustrations, a great maritime reference ; Signed by Author .

Includes: illustrations, index, bibliography. Endpaper map. From an on-line posting: "James E. Marvil was born in Laurel, DE, in 1904, and practiced medicine in Laurel and Lewes. During World War II, he served overseas in the Army Medical Corps. Dr. Marvil was one of the founders and the first president of the Lewes Historical Society and began the practice of moving historic houses to its historic complex grounds. After the great response to the opening of the Cannonball House as a Marine Museum in Lewes, he procured the Lightship Overfalls from the U. S. Coast Guard and started the first Friends of the Overfalls. In 1977, Dr. Marvil received the Delaware Distinguished Service Award for Achievements in the Field of Historical Preservation.
