About This Item

Victoria, B.C.: Sono Nis Press, 1978. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Inscribed by Author(s). 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Inscribed by the Author upon the ffep verso. A couple small tears with creasing to the jacket front top edge, minor shelf wear, very little wear overall. Jacket in Brodart for preservation. Text is clean. 'Jews from the Orient may have been the first white people to set foot in British Columbia, remaining long enough to leave the imprint of their culture among the Native Indian tribes. Within recorded history, the Fraser River gold rush in 1858 brought to Victoria the first permanent settlement of one hundred Jews, originating mainly from California, England and other parts of the British Empire. . . By means of an historic collection of photographs - many previously unpublished - and accompanying narrative, spanning a time period of more than a century, this history traces the beginning, organization, growth, and accomplishments of the Jewish communities in British Columbia.' Illustrated. .
