London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green, and Longman 1836. (hardcover) 315pp. Very good, no dust jacket. 8vo. Black leaher with gilt design to front. Gilt title to spine, four raised bands. Gilt edges, faded. Patterned endpapers. Frontispiece. Each engraving has a paper guard. Edges rubbed, corners lightly bumped. There is a book plate to the front free endpaper, a name pencilled to the blank side of the front free endpaper, and a personal gift inscription on the flyleaf facing the title page. Binding tape at inside front hinge. Starting at the rear hinge. Light foxing throughout. All of that identified, remains internally clean to read and enjoy. Marryat was widely recognized as a front runner of today's sea stories. Illustrated with twenty splendid engravings from drawings by Clarkson Stanfield, ESQ., R.A..
