About This Item
London: Hamlyn, 1975. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. This is a well-illustrated (lots of colour pictures) and interesting history of pirates for children and teens. The interior of the book is clean and tight, with some signs of previous use but no marks or damage. The illustrated covers are also in very good condition, with light wear at edges and corners, and a small patch of laminate lift at the top of the front gutter. A very nice copy. Synopsis: "here is the colourful history of piracy from ancient times up to the nineteenth century -- a thrilling account showing that fact can indeed be stranger than fiction." Contents: 1. From the Barbary Coast to the Spanish Main. -- 2. Bravery and brutality: the pirates of Tortuga and Port Royal. -- 3. Adventure and misadventure in the South Seas. -- 4. French corsairs of the Channel coast. -- 5. The pirates of Madagascar. -- 6. Piracy's final fling.
