Unruh, Jr.'s highly-regarded history of the movement of a quarter of a million emigrants across the Great Plains to settle in the American West in the 19th century. With 9 maps, 10 tables and dozens of black & white photos, drawings and reproductions of art works; indexed. Includes a foreword by Doyce Nunis. The author died at age 38 in 1976 following surgery for a brain tumor. --- In pale yellow cloth-covered boards with titling in gilt on brown spine block. Jacket bears wrap-around image of settlers, covered wagons and livestock traversing a western locale. --- An about Near Fine copy: clean, tightly-bound and unmarked. Unclipped ($22.50) jacket with several small tears and creasing to edges but remaining bright, intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; Small Quarto - 9 to 11 in. tall; xviii, 565, (2) pages .
