About This Item

New York, NY Dover Publications, 1960. Paperback Reprint Edition (1960); First Printing Thus, so stated. The hardcover edition was published in 1952. Very Good+ in Wraps: shows indications of very careful use: just a hint of wear to the outer extremities; some rubbing along the front hinge; else only mild rubbing to the wrapper covers and the price has been blocked out at the front panel and very faint toning to the white background field of the rear panel; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Remains close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8 x 5.35 x 0.5 inches). vi, 192pp. Sewn Binding; these old Dover volumes were made to last. Language: English. Weight: 8.5 ounces. Reprint Edition (1960); First Printing Thus, so stated. The hardcover edition was published in 1952. Trade Paperback. This beautifully written and well organized book is not a primer. It doesn't discuss openings, make suggestions to improve your game or suggest a better defense for Ruy Lopez. It simply demonstrates the beauty and aesthetic value of the game. It points out the pleasure--as the title suggests--and complexities of each piece in a game of chess. I find myself re-reading it and deriving additional pleasure each time. I strongly recommend it to anyone who loves the game or think they might.
