London: Published by Robinson, 1847. 55pp, [1]. Original publisher's printed salmon pink wrappers. A trifle rubbed and dusty. Internally clean and crisp. The sole edition of Charles P. Gerard's (1832-1847) final published work, an English verse translation of the Plutus of Aristophanes. A lesser known work, Plutus satirises contemporary Athenian politics and morality through the personification of the eponymous god of wealth, raising issues regarding the fair distribution of riches and the state of slavery.
