Bound in decorated cloth boards. Boards has light shelf-wear present to the extremities (spine and board lightly sunned and discolored, ink stain present to the rear board). No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. The first of his six popular books of poetry with Hampton Institute Camera Club photographs. Paul Laurence Dunbar (June 27, 1872 – February 9, 1906, Dayton, Ohio) was an African-American poet, novelist, and playwright of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Dayton, Ohio to parents who had been slaves in Kentucky before the American Civil War, Dunbar started to write as a child and was elected president of his class in high school. He published his first poems at the age of 16 in a Dayton newspaper. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
