A GENUINE DATE-STAMPED 1892 EDITION OF EDGAR ALLAN POE'S MOST FAMOUS TALES AND POEMS (NOT A LATER PRINTING)
A VERY RARE EDITION AND THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS COVER AND SPINE I HAVE EVER SEEN (AND I HAVE SEEN A FEW POE BOOKS...)
THIS BOOK IS NOW 132 YEARS OLD AND VERY BEAUTIFUL. INCLUDING NEARLY 50 WORKS BY EDGAR POE, PLUS EXTRAS
INCLUDING THE RAVEN, THE BELLS, ANNABELLE LEE, TO HELEN, THE LIFE OF EDGAR ALLAN POE, TO ONE IN PARADISE, THE HAUNTED PALACE, AND MORE
This is a stunning and scarce edition of Poe's poetical works, beautifully bound with gold embellishments and colorful floral motifs. Before listing this book, just for an age reference, it was printed and bound fourteen years before the Titanic set sail and has been well-preserved for 132 years. It includes all of Poe's most monumental poems as well as rarer titles, poems from his youth, and a biography of Poe. They don't make books this good anymore, and I don't think they ever will. I would snag this one before someone else does...
Step into the mysterious and macabre world of one of literature's greatest masters with the 1898 edition of Edgar Allan Poe's Poems and Tales. This exquisite volume offers a captivating journey through Poe's hauntingly beautiful poetry and chilling tales, showcasing his unparalleled ability to delve into the depths of human emotion and explore the darkest corners of the human psyche. With its lovely condition and an extensive selection of Poe's iconic works, this edition is a true treasure for literature enthusiasts, collectors, and admirers of Poe's unparalleled literary genius.
Books of this caliber and age are becoming increasingly scarce, and most have been read to pieces or turned to dust. After extensive research, I am unable to trace any others offered with this beautiful floral Victorian binding.
The overall condition of this book is very good for being over 130 years old. It displays some of the normal attributes of aging, as seen in a book printed 16 years before the First World War of 1914. The covers and spine show age, shelf wear, and handling use with scuffs, blemishes, scratches, fading, and normal use and time. The interior pages have been exceptionally well-preserved. The binding is solid and not "shaky," as you will find most books of the 19th century to be. I would say that despite some normal aging, it has been well-preserved.

THE POWER OF WORDS
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American writer, poet, and literary critic. He is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, as well as his poetry. Poe's works often explore themes of death, madness, and the supernatural, and he is considered one of the pioneers of the detective fiction genre.
Poe was born on January 19, 1809, in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents were both actors, but they died when he was very young. He was then taken in by John and Frances Allan, a wealthy couple from Richmond, Virginia, who raised him as their own child.
Poe attended the University of Virginia and later enlisted in the United States Army. However, he was discharged from the military and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he began his writing career. In 1835, his short story "MS. Found in a Bottle" won a literary contest, which brought him some recognition.
Poe's most famous works include "The Raven," "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." His poetry is characterized by its musicality, dark themes, and use of symbolism. "The Raven" is perhaps his best-known poem. It features a melancholic narrator who is visited by a talking raven that gradually drives him to madness.
Despite his creative success, Poe struggled with financial difficulties throughout his life. He worked as an editor and literary critic for various publications, including the Southern Literary Messenger and the Broadway Journal. His critical reviews were often scathing, and he had several literary feuds with other writers of his time.
Poe's personal life was marked by tragedy and loss. His wife, Virginia Clemm Poe, whom he married when she was only 13 years old, died of tuberculosis at the age of 24. Her death deeply affected Poe and influenced much of his later work.
On October 3, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe was found delirious on the streets of Baltimore and was taken to a hospital. He died four days later on October 7, 1849, at the age of 40. The exact cause of his death remains a mystery, and various theories have been proposed, including alcoholism, drug overdose, and even murder.
