Browning published her first adult collection of poetry in 1838, and, once entering into the literary society in the 1840s, wrote prolifically, particularly between 1841 and 1844. Her output of poetry put her in league and rivalry with Tennyson as a candidate for Poet Laureate. Her poetry inspired the likes of Edgar Allan Poe and Emily Dickson, as well as attracting the writer Robert Browning, who she later married.
