About This Item
New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1945. Hardcover. Edited by Louis Untermeyer. Illustrations by Richard and Doris Beer. Small 4to. Full black sheepskin with gilt lettering, slipcase. xvi, 238pp. Color illustrations, all pages ruled in blue. Near fine/near fine. Slipcase faintly age toned. Tight and handsome copy of this lovely LEC production -- fourth title in their 16th series. The husband-and-wife artists' watercolors -- all hand colored -- are charming and evocative. Colophon at rear notes limitation of 1500 copies (this #888) signed boldly by husband-and-wife artists Richard and Doris Beer. (All in one hand -- but whether this is his hand or her hand is not known: He signed both their names to some of them, she signed both their names to some of them, but they never each signed just their own names. Exemplars of his signature and exemplars of hers are simply not to be found.) NEWMAN 168.
