About This Item

London: Victor Gollancz Ltd. Very Good/Very Good. 1973. First Edition. Hard Cover. 8vo 0575017422 Dust jacket complete in a clear protective sleeve, unclipped. Brown cloth with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership inscription. 73 pages clean and tight. George MacBeth has been called "the most versatile poet writing today", and "arguably the most inventive and entertaining poet now writing in England", and has been invited to "pack it in". He is invariably provocative. The poems in his new collection were written between September 1971 and September 1972, and are published in the order in which they were written. The first was begun in Darmstadt, standing in front of the only building to survive the Allied raid in 1944, and the last arose out of losing a watch in the sea. Not for the first time, death and sexual energy are mainsprings, but there is also a greater concern with time and the effects of time than has been evident in George MacBeth's earlier collections.
