4th printing, one month after first printing. Considering this was obviously a surprise good seller for the publisher, it's one of Pogany's scarcest titles today, even more so in a jacket. It's profusely illustrated with a color frontis and title page vignette, 53 colored illustrations, all other pages illustrated with black & white text illustrations. Top edge gilt, alphabet endpaper in two colors, A-M in the front, N-Z in the rear. Ibis Journal/Robin Greer 107a.
A near fine to fine copy, light rubbing to the spine bottom and to the tips, one tip is rubbed through. Gilt is bright, nicely protected by the jacket, and it's quite special, with large lettering and drawings on both the spine and front cover. The jacket is just fair, reconsutructed with tape, several pieces missing, but still it offers a full color images on both covers and the spine is nearly complete. Not price clipped, still showing the original $4 (!) printed price.
With...an Original black and white drawing from the book, of a young boy with a fish he's just caught, in a circle with "1-2-3-4-5" around him, and 4 lines of hand-lettered text beneath: "one, two, three, four, five/ I caught a fish alive./ why did you let it go?/ because it bit my finger so." It's quite well done. It has a 1/16" spot in the margin of the upper picture and the same sized tiny hole in the lower right hand margin, easily matted out. Very attractive overall, glued into a white matte (we have not looked into separating these, so it's sold as-is).
